Primetime Limited, producer of the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), is set to produce the STEM Festival – a month-long celebration of Ghanaian innovation and ingenuity from July 15 to August 5, 2021.
After nearly thirty years of pioneering and breaking boundaries with the entertaining and informative National Science & Maths Quiz, Primetime Limited is determined to move the focus from theory to practical applications with the first-ever #STEM Festival. The festival boasts two unique events in a series, namely the Mentorship Sessions and the Sci-Tech Fair, which comprises the Sci-Tech Exhibition and the Sci-Tech Innovation Challenge. Originally part of the NSMQ, the Mentorship Sessions and the Sci-Tech Fair would be held separately this year.
The STEM Festival will be launched on July 15, 2021 and will be a virtual opening ceremony for the month-long affair culminating with a Mentorship Session with Dr. Kofi J. Brobbey, the Chief Executive Officer of Photonics Ghana. Dr. Brobbey will talk about prospects and career paths in Photonics.
There will be 15 sessions in total, from July 15 – August 5, 2021 at 5:00 pm GMT each day from Monday to Friday. All Sessions would be streamed live on the STEM Festival Facebook page, and include Q & A sessions to enable viewers delve deeper into the lecture delivered.
There would be no Mentorship Session on July 30, which is the last day of the Sci-Tech Fair.
This year’s edition of the Sci-Tech Fair will be held on July 29 & 30, 2021, at the Academic City University College campus. The Sci-Tech Fair is a platform that provides an opportunity for students, both in the basic and second-cycle institutions, as well as Tech Start-ups, to apply their creativity, knowledge and understanding of concepts studied in the classroom in producing solutions that could help solve problems in Ghana.
The Fair started off in 2017 as an exhibition-only event, where over a hundred students and Tech Start-ups in Ghana have had the opportunity to display their ingenious innovations. The 2021 edition of the Sci-Tech Fair is seeing a new addition – the Sci-Tech Innovation Challenge – to make the two-day event more challenging and give the students extra mileage to explore their creativity and challenge themselves in the practical aspect of science and technology.
The Sci-Tech Innovation Challenge which will be done alongside the exhibition, will feature the following ten (10) schools:
• Ghana Secondary Technical School, Western Region
• Aggrey Memorial SHS, Central Region
• St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, Greater Accra
• Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS, Western Region
• Prempeh College, Ashanti Region
• Obuasi SHTS, Ashanti Region
• Louis Rutten SHS, Upper West Region
• Don Bosco Technical Institute, Bono Region
• Mfantsipim School
• Sekyedumase SHS, Ashanti Region
